Prediction: UFC 86 Jackson vs. Griffin
This event looks solid. I’m actually excited for this event. Unlike UFC 85, this event actually looks like it was planned in advance. Two TUF coaches, Jackson and Griffin are squaring off. Jackson is the big favorite but will Griffin pull another upset? Without further ado, here are my predictions.
Quinton Jackson Vs. Forrest Griffin
Most experts think Jackson will have an easy victory. I don’t. Griffin will put up a fight and once again, surprise MMA fans. He won’t get the win but will give Jackson a hard time. Griffin’s biggest asset is his heart. He first surprised us by almost winning a decision against Tito Ortiz. Then in one of the biggest upsets in MMA history, he choked out the former Pride FC GP Middleweight Champ(same as light heavyweight in the US), Mauricio Shogun Rua. Rampage will get his slams and takedowns but Griffin should be able to weather it in the early rounds. I think in the end, it’s the striking that will determine the outcome of this match. In the fourth round, Jackson will get his ko. Griffin’s striking is okay but it’s his will that will push this fight into the late rounds. I’m excited for this match.

Patrick Cote Vs. Ricardo Almeida
This match could either be really boring or very exciting. Both fighters have a history of fighting not to lose but recently they have finished their fights. Almeida is a Renzo Gracie disciple and it shows when it comes to the ground game. Cote has knocked out his last two opponents and seems to be as confident as ever. A classic striker vs grappler match. Cote will take this to the judge, Almeida is too slippery to be caught with a ko punch but will get dominated. Cote will control the fight and his ground game is good enough not to get submitted. First round will probably go to the ground with the second and third being a stand up.
Prediction: Cote
Joe Stevenson Vs. Gleison Tibau
This is a tough one to call. Both fighters are veterans with a total record of 60 wins and 12 losses. Stevenson is always game but how will he comeback after his loss to BJ Penn. He didn’t seem stable afterwards. Is he going to be timid or dominate like the Stevenson we’re used to seeing? Tibau’s a well rounded fighter but Stevenson will take this one. Stevenson has fought tougher opponents and his experience will show. This fight will go the the judge with Stevenson winning all three rounds.
Prediction: Stevenson
Josh Koscheck Vs. Chris Lytle
I can’t stand Josh Koscheck. He’s a good but very boring fighter. Plus he talks big in his pre fight interviews and not delivering in the Octagon. Having said that, Koscheck will win by second round tko. Lytle is a known fighter but he is not in the same level as Koscheck. Koscheck’s stand up has improved and should confuse Lytle. Expect Koscheck to ground and pound his way to win in the second round.

Tyson Griffin Vs. Marcus Aurelio
When Tyson Griffin fights, it usually becomes the fight of the night(becoming one of my favorite fighters). This fight will be no exception. This is going to a war from the get go, a barn burner. Marcus Aurelio is known for choking out Takanori Gomi in Pride. Aurelio has also improved his stand up game. As usual, Griffin will push the fight and risk getting submitted to please the fans. I don’t think he’ll get submitted because he has fought previous bjj opponents before and he was never caught. This fight will be similar to Aurelio vs. Ishida in Pride: Aurelio on his back and getting pounded by the wrestler. Griffin by unanimous decision.
