Two free MMA events on the same weekend? What’s the world coming to? On Saturday we have Elite XC on CBS and on Sunday(9p.m. eastern, 6p.m. pacific), we have WEC on Versus. I’m a big fan of WEC. It’s a well produced show, with the best commentators in the business. Most of the fights are evenly matched and upsets are plenty. Here’s my predictions for the event:
URIJAH FABER vs. JENS PULVER
I’m going to go with the favorite and current champ, Faber. Jens Pulver is still a good fighter but he’s not the same fighter that won the UFC belt. Faber is too athletic and too strong for Pulver. Pulver’s chance is a knockout since Faber can be a bit reckless. I predict a tko by Faber in the second round.
Prediction: Faber
MIGUEL ANGEL TORRES vs. YOSHIRO MAEDA
I believe this will be the fight of the night. Torres has a crazy ass ground game and Maeda is excellent with his strikes. This will be a classic grappler vs. striker match but only one difference: they’ve both evolved so they’re well-rounded. I don’t even want to call this one, it can go either way. I’ll pick Maeda to get subbed in the third round.
Prediction: Torres
ROB MCCULLOUGH vs. KENNETH ALEXANDER
This will be a rematch between the two fighters. McCullough won the first fight by decision. Even though McCullough is overhyped, I don’t see Alexander winning the fight. McCullough has too much experience and after losing his belt, he’ll be hungrier than ever. McCullough by second round knockout.
Prediction: McCullough
MARK MUNOZ vs. CHUCK GRIGSBY
Look for Grigsby to dominate the fight and win by tko in the first round. This might be the most lopsided fight of the night.
Prediction: Grigsby
